HealthSpace is a SaaS company that offers a suite of cloud and mobile-based products to state and local government agencies. With their focus on streamlining complicated government processes, HealthSpace relies on a cloud-based model to create highly configurable software packages for their clients in as little as 30 days. With massive amounts of live and historical data coming in from countless government data sources, scalable customer onboarding and data accuracy is a necessity. Further complicating their data import process, clients frequently have unique import requirements that aren’t able to be easily translated from one use-case to the next.
Silas Garrison, CEO, and Founder of HealthSpace says: “ Municipalities are governed by vast sets of laws that differ from the city next to them. Some of these laws are inherited from a state-level mandate, others unique to that particular city. With so many regulations at play, government entity and city must be looked at through a brand new or unique lens."
HealthSpace’s need for agile implementation meant attempting to migrate legacy data imports using custom SQL parameters to a more scalable self-serve option. Their priority on the user meant that their team was tasked with ever-changing import requirements that needed to be continuously adjusted. This added to the complexity of not sacrificing the user’s experience when scoping out newer data import solutions.
Silas Garrison: “The user experience was paramount. Our clients have a somewhat similar process when they’re-importing some external records from a system. We might import an Excel spreadsheet with up to 10,000 rows containing any number of columns or formatting of labels. We wanted to implement a streamlined process to create a more self-serve model for our customers."
Things came to a head when HealthSpace partnered with a local city that had legislation requiring that every government entity use the city’s standardized billing software for all invoicing and payments. Normally an unsurmountable use-case, HealthSpace embedded the Flatfile importer directly into their accounting module. Their customer’s IT department would then send an Excel spreadsheet to import into HealthSpace, and then they would need to reconcile the spreadsheet fields through the data importer.
Silas Garrison: “We were lucky we found Flatfile. Integrating the importer was super gratifying and saved us likely 100s of hours of engineering while also creating a solution that was scalable for our entire product suite, not just a one-off customer need. We’re able to receive these Excel spreadsheets from our customer’s IT department and hand it off to Flatfile. The importer decides what fields go where, and we’re done!"
Flatfile not only cut down on engineering time for each implementation but also saved build time for the solution as a whole. Implemented on HealthSpace’s existing platform, Flatfile was able to save countless integration hours that would have been spent trying to create something similar instead of buying it.
Silas Garrison: “Integrating our existing JSON configurations into Flatfile was seamless. Flatfile enabled all of our product suite to suck in data from a spreadsheet in just a few short hours of engineering work."
Success stories like HealthSpace's are the reason we built Flatfile’s data onboarding platform. Saving our customers time and effort from building custom solutions is nice, but creating a great experience for a process that used to be frustrating is what keeps us going. We're ambitious in our pursuit of delightful data imports, and we look forward to working with HealthSpace and all of our customers to solve any problem related to getting data into web-based software applications.
